The late Freddy McKay delivered his songs in a grittily soulful style. He scored his first hit - the beautiful rocksteady tune "Love Is A Treasure" - for Treasure Isle, followed by several other hits for Duke Reid's prominent record label. Next to this he achieved memorable success with songs he cut for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One label in the early reggae era. working with studio bands 'the Revolutionaires' and 'the Soul Defenders', with whom McKay sang 'Picture on the Wall' his biggest hit.
In 1986 Freddie died of a heart attack.
